ABOUT

I am a curious and open observer of the environment and Nature
that surrounds us as well as the nature within each of us.

A bit of my story

I’m Carles, a Psychologist, Integrative Relational Psychotherapist, and trauma-informed Brainspotting therapist specializing in performance expansion.

Since 2013, I’ve offered therapy and counselling to help individuals in high-performance and creative fields to overcome performance blocks, stage anxiety, and career challenges, giving them support and resources for the expansion of a greater authenticity, creativity, and freedom in their work.

Over the years, I’ve developed a particular expertise in working with stage performers in the broadest sense—including actors, musicians, and athletes—especially those affected by focal dystonia or yips.

I currently work internationally online, and since 2020, I’ve been part of Ruth Chiles’ team of therapists, collaborating closely with her in the field of performance psychology.

My approach integrates the Free To Perform Methodology developed by Ruth Chiles, together with the clinical-relational principles of Integrative Psychotherapy and trauma informed psychotherapy, maintaining an attuned care and respect for the inter-relational dynamics at the heart of any therapeutic process.

The Free To Perform approach integrates the development of deep mindful attunement to the body: on increasing interoceptive, proprioceptive and perceptive skills from a Polyvagal theoretical view and it’s practice, as well as the integration of the somatic experience from an ethological understanding (how animals respond to adversity).

This performance model has earned the confidence of clients ranging from five-time Grammy Award winner Victor Wooten, to bestselling author Boo Walker, and Commonwealth judo champion Martin Shotbolt, among others.

For those interested in exploring this perspective, I highly recommend reading the book Free To Perform, or it’s spanish version Libera tu potencial which offers an insightful overview of this approach to performance.

Who do I work with?

My clients include musicians and producers across a wide range of styles—indie, heavy metal, folk—as well as classical instrumentalists such as flutists, pianists, cellists, and Spanish guitarists. They come from all over the world: the USA, UK, Germany, Spain, Taiwan, Nepal, and France.

In the sports field I work with European first league football players and coaches, freestyle football performers, and classical ballet dancers from national companies in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland.

In the domain of theater and film I have helped over a thousand performers—including the young cast of Netflix’s Welcome to Eden—navigate the emotional impact of sudden success and popularity.

All in all I support my clients in resolving what emotionally, mentally, and somatically interferes with their performance, while also using brain-body somatic reprocessing tools to enhance deep character development, creative flow, and sustained concentration.

My professional journey began in the creative industries in 1996: I am an experienced film director, having owned a film production company in Los Angeles, where I earned my MFA from the American Film Institute (AFI), and later directed primetime film and television in Madrid for over 15 years.

Alongside directing, I have coached actors and dancers in the natural expression of emotional truth for both stage and camera, teaching at some of Spain’s considered most respected acting schools and universities.

This unique combination of experiences—spanning psychology, performance, and creative practice—shapes how I work today. My approach is open, curious, warm, attuned, creative, and deeply committed to each client’s journey. I work fluently in both English and Spanish, and although I am based in Spain, my practice is international, supporting clients around the world.

I have learnt…

… that most performance blocks are rooted in relational survival adaptative patterns, maintained through relationships (with self, others or the world), and they can be healed in safe relationships.

Relationships have shaped us in one way or another.

That is the main philosophy from where we depart.

My my way of helping is always through an attuned relationship. I think it is within good relationships that we grow, develop, and learn to experiment with ourselves and with life. A good relationship is one that is empathetic, respectful, consistent, and stable — a safe ground from which we can look together at the patterns that shape your relationship with yourself, with others, and with the world.
